Adriana Meucci has asked us to introduce our customers to a wonderful organization with whom she volunteers. Closter Animal Welfare Society Inc. (CLAWS) has been serving the Bergen County, New Jersey area for the last 42 years. CLAWS currently works with a network of dedicated foster homes and volunteers to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome abandoned, neglected and unwanted dogs and cats, working tirelessly to find loving permanent homes for them.
Licensed in the State of New Jersey as a non-profit 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization, the group fosters and re-homes many animals each year without any state or federal funding. With no paid employees, they exist solely on donations and money generated by fundraisers. All fundraising is done by volunteers with 100% of proceeds going directly to help animals. All animals in the organization's care received much needed medical attention, so fundraising to cover veterinarian costs is very important.
Adriana tells us that two years ago, the organization opened a pet food pantry to assist pet owners who might otherwise have had to surrender their pets. In these tough economic times, many people are experiencing financial difficulties so the group does their best to help them keep their beloved pets healthy and happy. They also work with the "Meals on Wheels" organization, helping seniors keep and feed their pets. CLAWS is currently featured on "The Pet Stop" on News 12 NJ TV. One of their main goals is to raise funds to secure large enough space to accommodate several more pets under one roof, more space for the food pantry, and the ability to hold adoption events on site.
Currently, CLAWS is seeking funding for the purchase of a van to transport homeless pets of out harm's way and to and from the animal hospital. They also need money to be able to purchase banners and table coverings with their logo for use at adoption events and there;s also a great need for new pet beds and for gift cards to purchase dog and cat food. In order to generate funding, the organization is hosting some exciting events over the coming months. The CLAWS Comedy Night scheduled for December 5, 2014 looks like lots of fun!
With an emphasis on the welfare of animals, the organization serves to educate and encourage the public to spay and neuter their pets in order to alleviate pet overpopulation. To learn more, please go to their website, and if you wish to make a UKUSCAdoggie purchase and have us donate 10% of the purchase price to this wonderful organization, simply enter "CLAWS" as your chosen rescue organization. We know they'll be really grateful!
